I’m Thinking of Ending Things
16 x 9 format, 7:00 | 2017
I’m Thinking of Ending Things is a two-channel video installation project that seeks to commemorate and memorialize the city of Oshawa’s 110-year history with General Motors. Though the company has been essential to the city, industrial decline and economic turmoil have meant that job loss has been an ongoing collective experience endured by many Oshawans over the past few decades. As the city continues to emphasize the tremendous growth in the technology, health care and education sectors, little consideration has been given to the emotional and psychological costs paid by those who have lost their employment in this transformation. As the relationship with GM continues to shift and change, the installation seeks to acknowledge and encourage reflection on the emotional impact that this company has had over its years of operating in Oshawa.Commissioned by the Robert McLaughlin Gallery as part of marking their 50th anniversary in 2017.
