10×10 is an annual Toronto exhibition of 100 portraits celebrating queers in the arts, taken by 10 queer photographers. As longing, loss and vulnerability are the focus of my practice, for my 10×10 portraits I chose an approach and location that would allow me to explore these themes with my participants, without hopefully crossing any lines; I photographed my 10 participants in their bathing suits, allowing for a reflection on the ways in which many queer and trans people face difficulties in negotiating our bodies within public pool spaces. The strength to be vulnerable is a tried and true strategy of queer resistance, and I wanted to capture the way that this is embodied in these ten beautiful and brilliant people.
